My Fair Galatea

Pocket Opera of San Francisco has been around for 50 years, presenting wonderful opera, translated into English by Donald Pippin, on a smaller stage but with just the same music and heart. I was lucky enough to design costumes for My Fair Galatea in both 2015 and 2016.

My Fair Galatea - the rarely performed but delightful opera by Franz Von Suppe - is based on the ancient Greek myth of Pygmalion, a sculptor, who carved a statue so ravishingly beautiful that he fell in love with his own creation. He pined, he suffered - so much so that Venus took pity and the statue came to life.  This opera tells what happens next.  The production starred J.Raymond Meyers, Liesl McPherrin, Elana Cowan, and Michael Mendelsohn.
